Goodreads' Blurb:
Nicholas Flamel was born in Paris on 28 September 1330. Nearly seven hundred years later, he is acknowledged as the greatest Alchemyst of his day. It is said that he discovered the secret of eternal life. The records show that he died in 1418. But his tomb is empty and Nicholas Flamel lives. The secret of eternal life is hidden within the book he protects - the Book of Abraham the Mage. It's the most powerful book that has ever existed. In the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. And that's exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it. Humankind won't know what's happening until it's too late. And if the prophecy is right, Sophie and Josh Newman are the only ones with the power to save the world as we know it. Sometimes legends are true. And Sophie and Josh Newman are about to find themselves in the middle of the greatest legend of all time.

I am legend...

That is the prologue title of this book. Consisted of forty-one chapters, this book is the first volume of The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series, which adapts characters and life story of the legendary alchemist from France, Nicholas Flamel.

The first chapter of this book tells how the twins, Sophie and Josh Newman, find out a huge secret that Nick, the owner of the book shop where Josh works, is actually Nicholas Flamel. One day John Dee, Flamel's former apprentice, comes to the book shop and confronts the alchemist and his wife, Perenelle, to steal Codex (the Book of Abraham the Mage). Using his magic, Dee eventually grabs the book and kidnaps Perenelle.

Trapped by the alchemist's secret, Sophie and Josh are forced to join Flamel's quest to save Perenelle and take the Codex back. Flamel asks various assistance from his acquaintances such us, Scathach (of the Elder Race), Hekate (of the Elders) and the Witch of Endor.

Without Codex, Nicholas and Perenelle will age and within the full cycle of the moon, they will wither and die. Will Nicholas be able to save his wife and get the Codex back with now knowing that Sophie and Josh actually have a very potential magic?

The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series consist of six volumes: The AlchemystThe MagicianThe SorceressThe NecromancerThe Warlock, dan The Enchantress.

I do not belie that I bought this book genuinely because I was curious about Nicholas Flamel, the sorcerer who owns the legendary stone in the first Harry Potter series. The cover of this book is also appealing with its own luxurious impression.

I admire the application of the wide imagination and neat plot making of the author. The legendary characters which are applied in this book, are managed and developed in such way that the story is readable even for readers who do not have knowledge about the original tale. The author applies third person point of view, by prioritizing and changing between Flamel's, Josh's, Sophie's, Scathach's and Dee's.

Despite the worth of this book to be added to your shelf, I got a little bit difficulties to turn every page since the story did not really entice me to its magic. I even doubt to read the next volumes. Therefore I give rating 3.5 for this book.
